TYASA, Mexico

TYASA and ENKOTEC started a partnership in 2006 when TYASA (formerly Talleres y Aceros) decided to enter the nail market with the two biggest volume nails used (121” x 2 1/2” and .161” x 4”). We presented a solution of two ENKOnail machines with an ENKOpack automatic nail counting and packing solution to cover their production needs.

Alternatively, five conventional machines would have been required in order to cover the same production demand, and TYASA would also have needed a tumbler operation and a packing line. Since then, the partnership has continued to develop as TYASA 's needs grew. We are proud to support TYASA now and for all their future endeavours.

A Compact Solution

Talleres y Aceros (TYASA) was founded in the mid 1980s by Mr. Elias Chahín installing a hot rolling facility in Orizaba, Veracruz, Mexico. The plant was extended at the end of the 80s to include the first melt shop, producing up to 320,000 tons/year of ribbed wire. 1997 saw a capacity increase in the melt shop and the installation of a wire rod mill to reach 450,000 tons/year of both ribbed wire and wire rod.

2006 was the year of the installation of the new wire plant DERIVADOS in Orizaba to process up to 48,000 tons/year of welded mesh, anneal wire and nails, since TYASA also decided to enter the nail market. The ENKOTEC solution provided oil-free nail production and counting and packaging all in one connected line, as the nails produced are clean enough to be packed directly. The first machines were delivered in the 1st quarter of 2006. The installation of the machines and the training of the workers at TYASA was completed in only one week.

Further Investments to Meet Demand

In 2007 DERIVADOS II was established in Mérida, Yucatán, as a distribution center to produce up to 18,000 tons/year of welded mesh. An increased demand for nails in the .121” x 2 1/2” segment caused TYASA to invest in ENKOTEC’s newly developed ENKOnail NX series that increased the output by 20% from the older model. This also allowed TYASA to have one of its older machines allocated to only running 161” x 4”, where it previously was needed to do frequent changeovers to meet the 121” demand with the two older machines. TYASA’s first NX series machine was delivered in the 3rd quarter of 2007, this one also with the ENKOpack nail counting and packing solution.

2008 saw the installation of a new wire rod mill and a bar mill, 2009 the installation of the new ribbed wire processing plant CAHA (Centro Avanzado de Habilitado de Acero) in Orizaba to produce engineering welded mesh, reinforced columns and ribbed wire bending, and 2012 the installation of a new distribution center in Arriaga, Chiapas, Mexico

By 2013 he need for nails had increased and TYASA ordered their second NX machine for the production of .121” x 2 1/2” together with an updated ENKOpack, which was more flexible for different box sizes and more mobile, if needed for other products. TYASA’s second NX nail machine was delivered in the 1st quarter of 2013. TYASA is now operating with four ENKOnail machines and ENKOpack solutions to secure their need for high volume precision nails.

TYASA established a new state-of-the-art Quantum melting shop in 2014 with a CC machine to reach 1,200,000 tons/year of bars, beam blank, billets (round and square) profiles. This was the first in the world of such kind and helped to position TYASA at the front of steel production capabilities in the years to come, under the leadership of Mr. Oscar Chahín, Owner and Director. ENKOTEC is looking forward to being a continuous partner in TYASA’s search for providing quality performance and quality products.
